Name of the Association

The official name of the Association is the AUSTRALIAN-CHINESE WUSHU (KUNGFU) CULTURE ASSOCIATION INCORPORATED (ACWKCA Inc.).

Nature of the Association

The Association is a non-profit, social organization that brings together members from Australia, China, and other countries who share a deep appreciation for the history, philosophy, and practices of Chinese martial arts (Kungfu). It includes external and internal styles of Kungfu, reflecting a commitment to fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding.

Objectives

The Association’s aims are:

  1. To promote and facilitate cultural exchanges between Australia and China regarding Chinese martial arts (Kungfu) and related aspects of Chinese intangible cultural heritage.
  2. To expand these exchanges to other countries wherever possible, showcasing the legacies, history, and ethos of Kungfu.
  3. To uphold the principles of democracy, equality, and harmony while respecting and learning from the indigenous and martial arts traditions of participating countries.

Key Business Areas

The Association operates in the following areas:

  1. Research and Promotion of Kungfu:
    • Facilitate the exchange and promotion of both external styles (e.g., Seven Star Praying Mantis, Shaolin Quan, Chang Quan) and internal styles (e.g., Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, Baguazhang, Taoist Qigong).
    • Promote related Chinese intangible cultural heritage, such as traditional Chinese medicine, tea ceremonies, calligraphy, literature, and Taoist health-preserving practices.
  2. Indigenous Martial Arts:
    • Facilitate cultural and martial arts exchanges to explore similarities and differences between Chinese martial arts and indigenous martial arts from other countries.
  3. Events and Competitions:
    • Organize and facilitate events, workshops, and competitions to promote Kungfu and Chinese cultural practices locally and internationally.
  4. Cultural Activities:
    • Host events celebrating Chinese intangible cultural heritage in Australia, China, and other countries.
  5. Media and Publications:
    • Publish books, articles, and journals to share insights into Kungfu and its cultural significance.

Membership

Membership is open to individuals and groups who support the Association’s objectives. Members are encouraged to participate in the Association’s activities and contribute to its growth. Approval of membership applications is determined by the Executive Committee.

Location and Scope

The Association is based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Initially, it focuses on fostering Kungfu cultural exchanges between Australia and selected provinces in China. In the long term, it aims to expand these exchanges to other Australian states and countries worldwide.

The Association emphasizes respect for the values of Kungfu, including its historical and philosophical aspects, while promoting harmony and mutual respect among members from diverse backgrounds.
